Worship Experiences Taizé Spirituality
Written by Rick Butler February 10, 2011
The liturgical season of Lent (the six weeks between Ash Wednesday and Resurrection Sunday) carries a tradition of increased focus on spirituality.
Members of Christian faith communities are encouraged to give up or release a habit or practice that will help the person center more fully in God. Or, persons can take on a practice that will enhance his or her awareness of the spiritual journey.
As just such a communal "taking on," worshippers at the 9:30 AM service will experience the spirituality of the Taizé Community during Lent (March 13—April 17). Through this worship style we hope to deepen our awareness of and relationship with God.
Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, provides the following information concerning the Taizé Community: Founded in 1940 the Taizé Community is an ecumenical Christian monastic order in Taizé, Saône-et-Loire, Burgundy, France. It is composed of about 100 brothers who come from Protestant and Catholic traditions. The monastic order has a strong devotion to peace and justice through prayer and meditation. Worship at Taizé centers on meditative singing, prayer, and silence. The community has become one of the world's most important sites of Christian pilgrimage. Over 100,000 young people from around the world make pilgrimages to Taizé each year.
