Our Values
WORSHIP
Weekly and special services shall center on God and the good news of God’s love in Jesus Christ; be attentive to the faith cycle of the church year; give witness to the transforming power of God in Jesus Christ through baptism and communion; provide guidance for individual, family and home devotions; celebrate life passages, including births, child adoptions, passages from childhood into adulthood, marriages and covenantal unions, and deaths; and emphasize our work of spiritual growth and mission.
SPIRITUALITY
Create opportunities for people to enjoy God, to deepen their relationship with God and gain spiritual understanding through teaching the practice of spiritual disciplines.
STEWARDSHIP
Give witness to a four-fold understanding of stewardship as caretakers of God's gifts to humanity: Stewardship of Story; Stewardship of Creation; Stewardship of Material Possessions; Stewardship of Spiritual Gifts. The community recognizes that both the collective body and each individual bears responsibility for stewardship over God’s gifts.
TEACHING
Provide challenging Biblical and theological instruction for people at every stage of Christian maturity.
MISSION
Emphasize the role of mission in the Christian life; support and encourage mission teams from BVCC involved in internal and external mission projects as they expand from those that sustain the church to those in the neighborhood, the region, the nation and the world.
PASTORAL CARE
Attend to the needs of members and friends of BVCC, including those suffering illness, hospitalization and home confinement; those in crises, such as broken relationships, loss of employment, death of loved ones and personal transitions.
HOSPITALITY
Provide welcoming environment for members, friends and visitors; eagerly share our values and vision; and invite participation into the activities and missions of the community.
